The landmarks found by former New York City Commissioner Bill de Blasio and a former mayor who won reelection this year remain the most important of all the city’s new city histories, as both of them have brought an end to much of the controversy surrounding a controversial $80 million redevelopment project that, in the eyes of some, has been a triumph of political hubris and neglect. Both de Blasio and de Blasio claimed they had the authority to make the $80 million conversion because they wanted to “protect the neighborhood” from blight and the “immoral” $6.5 billion redevelopment project.
